THE RENDERING PROCESS

Adding render to the exterior of a house or building involves applying a thin layer of cement-based material to the surface of the walls. This process is commonly known as rendering, and it is done to improve the appearance and durability of the building's exterior.

Preparation

The first step in the process is to prepare the surface of the walls. This involves cleaning the walls to remove any dirt or debris and repairing any cracks or holes. The walls are then coated with a bonding agent to ensure that the render adheres properly.

Rendering

Once the preparation is complete, the render is applied to the walls using a trowel. The thickness of the layer can vary depending on the desired finish and the condition of the wall. The render is smoothed and levelled to create an even surface.

After the render is applied, it needs to be left to dry and cure. This can take several days or even weeks depending on the weather conditions. During this time, the render needs to be protected from rain, direct sunlight, and other weather conditions.

Once the render has cured, it can be painted or coated with a sealant to protect it from moisture and further weathering.

Using a qualified and experienced professional is important to ensure the job is done correctly and safely.
